WC 2011- XTRAS!!!!

If we pick up any newspaper now days there are at least couple of articles about the Cricket World Cup that too by professional sport writers, so I don?t think there is any need for a novice like me to write about each and every match.

So I just had an Idea to share about few exciting moments on and across the field. World Cup 2011 is just about fortnight old and viewers are lucky enough to witness lots of exciting matches. There were few one sided affairs as well but overall cricket has been exciting.

It all started at Mirpur on 19th?Feb between India and Bangladesh, As Veeru was taking strike against Shaiful Islam there was a huge roar by the passionate Bangladeshi supporters but as soon as Veeru hit the first ball for a boundary there was a pin drop silence across the Shere-E-Bangla stadium. It was a perfect example of how the noise level shifts in the matter of seconds from 1000 to 0 Decibels.

Another surprise was to see Harsha with hair on his head for a change. Philips Cricket Extra is total fun with Navjot Singh Siddhu aka Sherry and Dermot Reeve in the studio. I still remember Dermot Reeve saying that Micheal Yardy is much better all-rounder than Kapil Dev and Ian Botham. And with Sherry around you can expect non-stop entertainment. Sherry Paaji standing and singing ?Saare Jahan Se Acha? in the studio was a true master piece.

Another change was to see full house on Srilankan grounds even though it was only for Sri Lankan games but still Full House at Sri Lanka is a rarity especially in last couple of years. ?Noise Meter? which measured the density of sound inside the stadium was also a good invention in Sri Lanka. The passion for Cricket in Bangladesh reached its maximum when Bangladesh government announced public holiday for all Bangladesh games.

Talking about ?Team India?, I still can?t figure out why MSD continuously mentions about the ?Slow Fielders ?during presentation. Guys like Zaheer, Sachin are not as fit as Virat and Raina but how can you single out them during each and every game especially when they are the best bowler and batsman of your team. If Dhoni wants to select a team only on fielding then there is a strong case to call back ?Mohammad Kaif?.

Even Media were at their best especially after England and Bangladesh defeats against Ireland and West Indies respectively.??Some British Paper termed the defeat as ?England World Cup Hopes Shattered?, which was too much of a reaction. England silenced their critics by beating South Africa on Sunday. It was funny to hear about former Bangladeshi cricketers criticizing the team after their dismal show against the West Indies. As Shakib rightly mentioned ?On what basis are you criticizing the current team, what have you done for Bangladesh during your playing days?.

WC 2011 made one thing clear that 50 over cricket is here to stay. When the World Cup started cricket pundits predicted India and Sri Lanka as main contenders. But as the tournament is reaching its knock out stage, teams like Pakistan, England, South Africa, Australia and even New Zeland are looking good. So it?s gonna be fascinating World Cup for sure. Let?s enjoy the matches and don?t forget to ?KEEP CHEERING FOR
