Mental Health Matters

Well was going to write on this Topic sometime back means when we were in Strict #Lockdown.. but somehow I missed it. However, since Sunday this Topic has been the hottest Trend on Social Media. As everyone knows Bollywood?s popular Actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide and the main reason as of now is termed as Depression. To be frank, I am not going to dwell deep into the issue as I hardly follow Bollywood lately.  But Self-made Sushant was always a personality to admire… So can understand the reactions pouring in after his demise & the reasons behind it being discussed.

Since the topic of Mental Health has been brought on just like to share my viewpoints on the same. First of all. Actually, I don?t Google much when I write however since Mental Health needs some research… I just found out that ?India is the Most Depressed Country in the World? as per the WHO report which was published on the Internet on Nov 8, 2019, on the website named ?https://millichronicle.com/?. It also states that India has the most number of cases of anxiety, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. The study further states that 6.5 percent of the population suffers from some form of mental disorder. ?

The reasons?? ?well, I need to research the same but I feel it might be the Over Population, Lack of Proper Employment Opportunities, The Work System especially in Private Firms which is always bias for Employers… Maybe some other reasons as well. However, Experts in the field of mental health can give you the proper & more precise reasons for the same.

Coming back to the Topic, Mental Illness is still the most neglected Illness in India. The main reason being that even today we feel that the person who visits the Psychiatrist is not normal or simply a mad person. However, due to Social Media and other factors, the situation has changed slightly but still many don?t like to mention that they have been to Psychiatrist. So it?s good that Trend like #MentalHealthMatters is Trending and people are taking this problem more seriously now.

When we are living in today?s age of cut-throat competition dominated by Social Media it is true at some point in time we face some sort of Depression in our lives. I know many reading this are active on Social Media. What happens when we Post something and it doesn?t get much ?Likes? on Facebook. Those negative vibes start wondering inside you, Right?? On the other hand, if your Profile Picture got more Likes than you expected you can feel the Positive Vibes Inside you. Same about those long Political Discussions, if we get over our friends we feel so Happy Na…. Well, that is about Social Media !!

Talking about real life, Depression or Mental Illness should never be ignored. Various Factors in our life can lead us to Depression right from our childhood like,

  • During exam time when the pressure is at its extreme high, we can be in depression. After the exam, if we score fewer marks or we fail we can also get into depression.
  • Also, if we are not following our Passion and doing the Job we hate we can get depressed by doing the same thing non-stop.
  • A loss of Job or a Business Slack which many of us are facing due to Covid19 & Lockdown can also be one of the major causes of depression.
  • Always, comparing ourselves with the achievements of our friends & relatives can also lead to depression.
  • Break Up, especially if you love that person a lot and if you have been in a relationship for a long time can also lead to depression.
  • Constant competition especially in Sports, Entertainment Industry can also lead to depression.
  • Loss of a person who is very close to you can be another cause of depression.
  •  If you are too fat, too thin, not good looking, or have some abnormalities ? all these can also get you into Depression. Other things like too much time on Social Media and comparing ourselves with our Social Media friends can also cause Depression.

Well, what are the remedies !!! I am not a Doctor of Mind i.e. psychiatrist so just can’t provide you the precise remedy… However, just sharing a few things which I feel can be helpful …

  1. Reach Out ? If you are feeling Depressed, first of all, Reach Out to your closed ones. Share your worries with them and if you feel that Depression is affecting your personal or professional life kindly consult the Psychiatrist
  2. Pursue your Passion ?  There are only a few lucky souls who get a chance to earn money by doing things they like to do. The majority of people are into the Job which they hate most but still do it coz Money. So for those people, there may be some passion they may be following … Maybe you are a good singer, a good dancer, a good Cook, a good Cricketer, you may like reading books, you may like watching Historic Movies kindly follow your passion in your Free time. If you are not getting a Free time then try to make free time for these activities. Coz the happiness you will find in doing the things you like might neutralize the depression which you may feel during your office work.
  3. Try to Stay Positive (Always) ? Always try to find a positive in every negative situation. I know there may be instances when there is no chance of you to stay Positive but try your best not to be crumbled by the situation.  Let?s talk about the current scenario… Many jobs and businesses are being affected due to extended #Lockdown.. Payments are pending, Salaries are not done, Job Security is under threat.. but stay calm & relaxed. You have the Talent, you have the Skills and you have earned money before. Just give the situation some time to get normal. If you have the Skills, Talents & Self-Belief you will definitely recover all the losses you are facing due to the recent Pandemic issue.
  4. Suicide (What is That??)  – Before Sushant Singh Rajput?s news, there was another News flashing that a 13-year-old boy in Pune committed Suicide as his parents asked him to stop watching Cartoon on the TV & switched it Off. This News was as shocking as that of Sushant. A 13-year-old small kid… How on earth can he ever think of Suicide ??  We hear a lot of students committing suicide when they Fail in Exams or get fewer marks. I think parents should look after the mental health of their kids as well. They should interact with them often, try to be their friends with whom these small kids will feel free to share their problems. Mental Fitness of kids should be a topic that needs to be taken more seriously especially in this era of WhatsApp, Facebook & Insta.
  5. Pray, Do Exercise (Keep your Body & Soul Fit) ? If you believe in God, keep praying and try to stay connected with the almighty. No need of visiting Temple, you can do it from your home as well. However, I have experienced a lot of Positive Vibes when I go to the Temple. So try doing that at least once a month or so if possible. Keep your body fit… Fitness is a top priority in today?s world… So try to do regular exercise, maintain a healthy diet & stay away from unwanted debates & discussions on Social Media.
  6. Break Up & Love Life ? Well Guys & Girls… Never be too much attached to someone. Loving a person is fine but being addicted to that person is nonsense. We see a lot of breakups, fights happening in relationship. Many times you don?t end up marrying a person who you Love. But accept the fact & move on. No point in making your life miserable by thinking about that broken relationship. Simply look for another partner & continue enjoying your life.

Well, that is it.  If you have any suggestions you can add them as well in the Comments Section. Just a small sentence which I heard in one of Sandeep Maheshwari?s video that Impressed me a lot ?Be happy for a life you are having, many of people dream of having a beautiful life that you are living?

#StayPositive #StaySafe #TakeCare
